Julia joined WIMBC in 2018. She leads the Finance Committee, which is responsible for preparing the annual financial statements, monitoring the operating budget, and maintaining the accounting records and internal controls over financial reporting. Julia is a Chartered Professional Accountant candidate and has over six years of experience specializing in financial reporting and assurance. She is a Manager, Audit at KPMG LLP, a global leader in the delivery of audit, tax and advisory services. Julia focuses largely on the audits of financial statements and internal control over financial reporting for public mining companies filing in Canada and the U.S.

Sarah Martin is an associate at Fasken who works with clients on a wide range of mining, energy and environmental matters, with an emphasis on commercial and regulatory issues. Sarah assists with due diligence and risk assessments for acquisitions and other corporate transactions, as well as environmental assessments, permitting and compliance issues. Sarah discovered her interest in mining transactions as an articled student at Fasken and looks forward to helping advance women in the industry through her work with WIMBC.

As Senior Consultant, Diversity and Inclusion at PHC Inc. Courtnay provides research, advisory, and project management services to mining employers, educators and communities seeking to increase the attraction, retention and development of more diverse workforces. Courtnay is a recognized expert on gender diversity in mining and leads national and regional research and policy initiatives on diversity and inclusion for the mining sector.

Courtnay contributes to a number of national and regional committees focusing on increasing diversity and building HR capacity. These include the BC Mining HR Taskforce; Women in Mining Canada’s National Action Plan; Engineers and Geoscientists BC Taskforce on Gender Diversity; and the Engendering Engineering Success Consortium. Courtnay holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and a Masters of Applied Science in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Courtnay’s graduate research was one of the first studies to identify and investigate gender inequality within the Canadian mining workforce.

After 10 years working with impact-driven companies across the technology and mining sectors, Nicole is now CEO at Beacon HR where she leads a team of recruitment and retention strategists. One of her proudest career accomplishments is as Recruitment Manager for Pretivm’s Brucejack project in Northwest BC. 

Nicole has seen first hand how diverse teams perform better. She is passionate about inspiring better, bolder, workplaces and building diverse, growth-minded, and innovative teams. She is excited to support the advancement of women in the mining sector - because more women participating and thriving means a stronger sector overall. 

Nicole also volunteers as a mentor with Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, Board Member for Entrepreneurs Organization Accelerator Program, and with CPHR BC & Yukon.
